The Brummitt-Taylor Music Listening Program

Brummitt Taylor Informational FlyerThe Brummitt-Taylor Music Listening Program is a daily curriculum program that teaches classical music literacy in a simple, non-directed approach in five minutes a day.

Through repeated listening, students learn to recognize composers and compositions, different musical instruments, the creative process in music, basic music vocabulary, and accept the music of fine composers as part of their daily curriculum.

Brummitt-Taylor allows teachers and school administrators to address a significant part of the Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) standards, which are required by all California schools, in a way that is enjoyable and easy to implement .

The program is now in it’s eighth year and is being used in classrooms throughout Inyo County.

The uniqueness of The Brummitt-Taylor Music Listening Program
lies in the quality of the music the authors have chosen.
Children respond to that quality.
The creativity evident in any real masterwork fins an echo in the minds of children.
Given the opportunity, children will always choose and love good music.
