Ongoing:

Gallery – The ICA Gallery, located at 137 S. Main St. in Bishop features rotating exhibits of works by local artists.  All ICA member artists are welcome to submit pieces to our shows.  View our gallery schedule HERE for upcoming shows.

Classes – ICA hosts art classes and opens our space for use by fitness classes that are open to the public on a weekly basis.  Classes take place both in the ICA theater at 137 S. Main St., and at the art studio at the Jill Kinmont Boothe School.

Concerts – ICA produces concerts throughout the year in our theater space, and in community spaces including the Bishop High School auditorium, and in the Bishop City Park during the Memorial Day Arts and Crafts Show.  We have also produced shows in Lone Pine and have brought visiting musicians into numerous Southern Inyo schools.

Newsletter – ICA sends a newsletter about every two weeks to our local subscribers.  The newsletter reaches over 1,100 residents of the Eastern Sierra, and includes not only ICA events and reminders, but also announcements about artistic and cultural events across the Eastern Sierra.  To sign up for the email newsletter CLICK HERE.  If you would like to submit an event or announcement for inclusion in our email, please send info to millpond@inyo.org. (Please limit submissions to artistic and cultural events in the Eastern Sierra, and include, if possible, a poster or graphic for the event.)

School Programs:

Art Docent Program – In 2010, ICA and the Inyo County Superintendent of Schools Office (ICSOS) developed and launched the K-5 Art Docent program for students throughout the county. The program brings parent and volunteer docents into elementary classrooms six times per school year to present portfolios of famous art works. Each portfolio contains four or five reproductions of famous works, accompanied by information on the artist and the work to provide historical and artistic enrichment.  Presentations are followed up with a hands-on art lesson.

Brummitt-Taylor Classical Music Listening Program – A daily curriculum encouraging students to recognize and understand classical compositions, the Brummitt-Taylor Program is more than simply a “music appreciation” program, it is a comprehensive approach to developing musical literacy. ICA partners with ICSOS to provide this program to more than 1,500 Inyo County students on a daily basis.

Poetry Out Loud – ICA facilitates Inyo County’s participation in the nation-wide Poetry Out Loud competition, which encourages students to learn about great poetry through memorization and recitation. The program helps students master public speaking skills, build self-confidence, and learn about their literary heritage.  Poetry Out Loud is produced in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts and the California Arts Council. Each year the winner of the Inyo County competition travels to Sacramento to compete in the state-wide championship.

After-school classes – ICA organizes and facilitates after school art classes for students across the county, from Lone Pine to Round Valley, including our county juvenile detention center.  These classes not only benefit students in our artistically under-served school districts, but also give local artists the opportunity to share their craft with the young members of our community.

Assemblies – ICA presents a number of in-school music assemblies for students across the county featuring high-quality musical acts from around the world.  We are proud to provide these unique opportunities for multi-cultural enrichment and musical inspiration to kids in even our smallest schools.

Annual Events:

Millpond – The Millpond Music Festival is a three day multi-cultural music festival that takes place at the Millpond County Park just outside of Bishop in September each year.  2016 marks the 25th anniversary of this Eastern Sierra tradition – which features local art vendors, a variety of food vendors, kids activities, and educational workshops, in addition to the stellar main stage performances of musical acts from around the world.

Labor Day and Memorial Day Arts and Crafts Festivals – ICA produces the Labor Day and Memorial Day Arts and Crafts Shows in the Bishop City Park each year.  The Labor Day show runs concurrently with the Tri-County Fair, and features approximately 60 art vendors, and an eclectic mix of food vendors. The Memorial Day Show, running during Bishop’s famous “Mule Days” celebration, features over 100 art vendors, delicious food vendors, and a program of free live music from 11am to 6 pm on Sunday.

Farmers Market – In an effort to promote local artists, ICA organizes the participation of non-agricultural vendors at the Eastern Sierra Farmers Market, which takes place on Saturdays during the summer in Bishop.

Banff Film Festival – Each year in March ICA brings the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour to Bishop for two nights. The festival features exhilarating and provocative films that explore life in the mountains, highlight remote cultures, follow intense expeditions into exotic landscapes, and bring adrenaline-packed action sports into sharp focus.

Community Reads – In collaboration with the Inyo County Superintendent of Schools Office, ICA produces the annual Community Reads program which encourages literacy and community involvement though a series of events centering on the theme of a different book each year.  Community Reads will be marking its 9th year in 2017.
