Poetry Out Loud Now in its seventh year nationwide, Poetry Out Loud was created through the National Endowment of the Arts and The Poetry Foundation, in order to encourage youth to learn about great poetry through exploration, memorization and performance. The program begins in the classroom, as students select poems to recite from the Poetry Out Loud Anthology of more than 650 classic and contemporary poems. Students then advance to a school-wide competition, culminating in a county final competition. The Inyo County first place winner then proceeds to the California State Competition, held in March each year in Sacramento, with the state champion heading to the National Finals in Washington D.C.
